The fifth-generation Supra arrived as a revival and has become a finished chapter. Toyota said production would end in spring 2026, and Cars.co.za later reported that Supra and BMW Z4 production at the Graz plant stopped in March 2026. Toyota's 2026 Final Edition release Cars.co.za's report For most buyers the A90 is now a used-car decision, and its model years are not interchangeable. The years below are the ones where Toyota's US press releases describe meaningful changes.

2020: the starting point

Toyota launched the US car for the 2020 model year as the first global model developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing, built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six made 335 hp and 365 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic, and Toyota quoted 4.1 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. It said the design targeted 50:50 weight balance and a low center of gravity, and top speed was electronically limited to 155 mph. 2021: more power, more bracing, and a four-cylinder

The 2021 update is the one that splits the market. Toyota raised the six to 382 hp and 368 lb-ft, using a six-port, dual-branch exhaust manifold and new pistons that cut compression from 11:1 to 10.2:1, which it said was to prevent abnormal combustion under high boost. The 3.0 also gained aluminum braces tying the strut towers to the radiator support, new bump stops and retuned dampers, along with revised steering, stability-control and active-differential programming. Toyota put the 0-60 time at 3.9 seconds. Toyota's 2021 GR Supra release

The same year brought the GR Supra 2.0, a 255-hp turbocharged four that shared the six's twin-scroll turbo, direct injection and variable cam timing. At 3,181 pounds it weighed more than 200 pounds less than the 3.0, and Toyota projected 5.0 seconds to 60 mph. The savings came partly from what it left out: no Active Differential, no adaptive suspension, and smaller front brakes with single-piston calipers. 2023 and 2024: three pedals and an anniversary

For 2023, Toyota added a six-speed manual it engineered and tuned specifically for the straight-six, with a new large-diameter clutch, a shorter 3.46 final drive in place of the automatic's 3.15 and rev-matching that can be switched off. It came on the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium and on a 500-unit A91-MT Edition. The 2023 cars also got retuned suspension, steering and traction control, a new Hairpin+ function meant to give more freedom on tight, high-grip uphill bends steeper than 5 percent, and Toyota confirmed an active rear sport differential as standard on every 3.0. Drifters will note that Toyota tuned Track mode "to allow for easy drifting with freedom of throttle control." Toyota's 2023 GR Supra release

For 2024, Toyota added the 45th Anniversary Edition, based on the 3.0 Premium with either transmission, in an exclusive Mikan Blast orange with a manually adjustable rear spoiler and 19-inch matte-black wheels. That year's release names the six by its B-58 engine code and lists the 2.0 as automatic-only. Toyota's 2024 GR Supra release

2026: the Final Edition

The 2026 range kept 382 hp and 368 lb-ft and offered the manual or the eight-speed automatic on every grade, with Toyota quoting 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds for the automatic and 4.2 for the manual. The MkV Final Edition added larger Brembo discs, revised front and rear camber, revised electronically controlled dampers, a stronger front stabilizer bar, strengthened front control-arm bushings and rear subframe mounts, a stronger underbody brace, refined differential control and aero pieces including a carbon-fiber ducktail spoiler. Every 2026 model rode on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Toyota's 2026 Final Edition release

Choosing a year

Start with the job. For a road car, any 3.0 delivers the six, and the 2021 and later cars carry the extra power and bracing Toyota documented. If you want three pedals, the search starts at 2023. If the car is headed for track or drift days, remember that the 2.0 does without the active differential. The A90 even has its own entry in Formula Drift's 2026 chassis variances, which allow PRO teams to trim the inner fender well for steering clearance and to weld in a rear traction-arm brace. Whatever the year, confirm the grade, transmission and service history of the actual car. The badge on the trunk lid will not tell you which of these changes it carries.
