The 964 was Porsche's first serious modernisation of the 911 under bodywork that still read as classic: coil springs replaced torsion bars, power steering and ABS arrived, and a pop-up rear wing cleaned up the tail. It launched in 1989 as the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, with the rear-drive Carrera 2 following in 1990, in coupe, targa and cabriolet. It spent years as the awkward middle child between the impact-bumper cars and the 993, which kept prices low until restomod builders chose it as their base and reset the market.
