A 31-mile paved crossing of the Great Smokies on US 441, connecting Gatlinburg, Tennessee to Cherokee, North Carolina entirely within the national park. Steady grades and continuous curves carry you from riverside hardwood forest up through spruce-fir at the gap, with stone-faced overlooks and tunnels in the original Park Service rustic style. The road is frequently closed by snow and ice in winter, and the Clingmans Dome spur closes for the season.
