Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway

61 miles of SR 4 across one of the last wild trans-Sierra passes. The route is a modern two-lane highway at either end but narrows in the middle to a steep, curvy, single-lane ribbon of asphalt with no centerline and minimal guardrail as it crosses the summit between two national forests. Trailers and large vehicles are a poor fit. The upper portion closes seasonally under winter snowfall.
