63 paved miles climbing from the Plateau Canyon floor to evergreen mesa-top forest at around 11,000 feet, passing hundreds of small lakes and aspen stands. The ascent is a sustained grade with switchbacks; the mesa top is gentler and open. A side trip runs out to Lands End Overlook above the Grand Valley. High-country sections see heavy snow and the Lands End road is a seasonal route.
