Cherohala Skyway

Roughly 43 paved miles of NC 143 and TN 165 linking Robbinsville, North Carolina with Tellico Plains, Tennessee across the Unicoi Mountains. The skyway climbs to mile-high vistas through two national forests with wide, well-sighted curves and almost no roadside development or services, so fuel up before starting. Fall foliage brings the heaviest traffic. Ice and snow can close the high sections in winter.
