Blue Ridge Parkway

A 469-mile limited-access parkway running the crest of the Blue Ridge from Milepost 0 near Waynesboro, Virginia to Milepost 469 near Cherokee, North Carolina. Fully paved, no commercial traffic, and posted at low parkway speeds, so it is a road for long unhurried days rather than quick transits. Grades and sweeping curves follow the ridgeline with frequent overlooks and tunnels. Sections close for weather and construction, and higher-elevation stretches are routinely gated in winter, so check the parkway's road-closure map before setting out.
